  Rodnya isn't turning out to be very good. We've watched two thirds of it. It still has a half hour to redeem itself, but I don't have my hopes up. Nonna Mordukova had a lot of good roles in her career, but maybe she and her director didn't have any idea how to play a country woman.   A good start for two careers

  I especially enjoyed watching the two younger actors in Pyat Vecherov, almost more than the the two leads, Stanislav Lyubshin and Lyudmila Gurchenko. Larisa Kuznetsova plays Katya (above) and Igor Nefyodov plays Zoya (below). I went to IMDB to learn a little more about them. It looks like her role as Kyatya was the first of 20 performances in her career. The only other of her films I've seen is Rodnya, which we've just started to watch. I don't think she has made an appearance in what we've seen so far. His part in Pyat Vecherof was Igor Nefyodov's first, as well. ...

  Well-traveled footpath

  I'm only one minute into this movie, but had to stop to enjoy this scene. I especially like Russian movies with rural roadside scenes. This one is extra pleasing because of the footpath on the right side of the road. It looks like a well-worn one, too, which means that if I were to ride my bicycle down the road, there might be someone to stop and talk to. And that rowcrop a little further along. Corn (maize)?
